Efficient and modern analyses
This does not mean that these people were acutely ill or had to be treated. Rather, the results show that changes to the blood vessels can already be present long before they cause symptoms in everyday life.
This is precisely where responsible prevention begins. It helps you to understand your personal situation at an early stage and to decide together with experienced physicians whether and which further steps are appropriate.
“In my daily practice, preventive care plays a major role, because it is far easier to avoid heart disease than to treat it. This study shows the enormous potential of prevention – more than one in two people is affected, but knows nothing about it.”
Prof. Dr. med. Henning Steen, Head of Cardiac Imaging at Buff Medical Resort
How much our cardiovascular system can cope with depends on the interplay of several areas. The heart muscle, blood vessels, nervous system, respiration, metabolism and musculature all influence one another.
A single measurement can therefore only ever show part of the overall picture. What matters is considering different results in context and relating them to the personal situation.
How strongly does the heart muscle work? How do the heart walls and heart valves move? Functional diagnostics and modern imaging allow different insights into the structure of the heart and the way it works.
How freely can the blood flow, and what is the condition of important blood vessels? Blood flow influences the supply to the heart, brain, musculature and organs.
How does the heartbeat adapt to movement, stress and recovery? ECG and heart rate variability provide different information about rhythm and autonomic regulation.
Under exertion, the heart, lungs, circulation and musculature have to work together. Targeted performance diagnostics show how the body responds to exertion and where individual performance reserves or limitations lie.
Some people would like clarity even though they feel completely healthy. Others would like to understand their performance capacity better or to have changes investigated specifically.
Sensible diagnostics therefore do not begin with a particular device, but with the right question.
“I feel healthy. Is there still something I should know about my heart and my blood vessels?”
“My everyday life demands a lot of me. How well does my cardiovascular system cope with exertion and recovery?”
“I exercise regularly. Does my training match my current physical performance capacity?”
“Cardiovascular disease has occurred in my family. What does that mean for my personal preventive care?”
“I notice that my stamina is declining or that my heart occasionally stumbles. What should be examined more closely?”
“I would like to record my current state of health so that I can better interpret later changes.”
Whichever of these questions brings you to us: our service team will first clarify, with no obligation, what you would like from your stay or from an examination. Medical questions are then discussed with our medical team.
“The best diagnostics are not the most extensive, but those that reliably answer a specific question. That is why we decide individually how closely we examine.”
Dr. med. Frank Hamann, Head of Cardiology at Buff Medical Resort
No single examination can fully represent cardiovascular health. While some procedures record electrical activity, others look at the structure of the heart, the course of values in everyday life, or the response under exertion.
Our medical team therefore does not select the examinations according to a rigid scheme, but assembles them in line with the personal question.
In cardisiography, five electrodes record the electrical activity of the heart over several minutes. The signals are then evaluated spatially with software and AI support.
The short, non-invasive examination offers an uncomplicated entry point into cardiac prevention. It can provide indications of unusual electrical patterns and help to assess the need for further cardiological diagnostics.
More information
Even a healthy heart does not beat completely evenly. The time intervals between individual heartbeats change continuously and are influenced, among other things, by the autonomic nervous system.
HRV measurement looks at these fine differences. It allows insights into the regulation between activation and recovery and thereby adds the response of the whole organism to the purely cardiological view.
More information
Some changes occur only occasionally or in particular everyday situations. A short examination at rest can therefore not always capture them.
Long-term measurements record heart rhythm or blood pressure over an extended period. This makes visible how the values change during activity, during recovery and during sleep.

In spiroergometry, respiration, oxygen uptake, cardiovascular response and further performance values are measured during controlled physical exertion.
The results help to put individual exercise capacity into context and to understand better how the heart, lungs, circulation and musculature work together. Medical recommendations and suitable training zones can be derived from this.
More informationEchocardiography shows the heart while it is working. Among other things, it allows the assessment of heart size, pumping movement and heart valves.
An ultrasound examination of the neck vessels can – where it is medically appropriate – provide additional information about vessel walls and blood flow. Neither examination involves exposure to radiation.

Cardiac MRI produces high-resolution moving images of the heart – without ionising radiation. It allows a detailed assessment of the heart muscle, the heart chambers, pump function and tissue properties.
Depending on the medical question, additional scans can provide indications of impaired blood flow, inflammation, scarring or other changes. The examination is planned and evaluated by experienced specialists and discussed with you personally.
More informationRelated areas
The heart is part of a closely connected system. The nervous system, respiration, metabolism, musculature, nutrition and recovery all influence how well the circulation can adapt to different situations.
This is not about changing every area of life at once or living up to a rigid ideal. What matters is finding out which connections are actually relevant for the individual person.
Every heartbeat requires energy. At the same time, metabolism influences how the body processes nutrients, provides energy and responds to exertion.
A sound cardiological interpretation therefore does not look at the heart in isolation, but also takes metabolism and energy balance into account – where these are relevant to the question.
Energy and metabolism →
Nutrition influences the energy supply, the metabolism and various processes that are also relevant to the heart and blood vessels. There is no single way of eating that is equally suitable for every person.
Nutrition →
Chewing and digesting – if disturbances occur here, this can lead to systemic inflammation and strain that can also have a strong effect on heart health.
That is why it is important to look thoroughly at the “root of the human plant” and to optimise its function.
