Buteyko Breathing on Lake Constance
Breathe consciously, grow calmer: Buteyko breathing invites you to get to know your own breath anew. Rather than deeper and more, here it is about less, calmer and through the nose. At Buff Medical Resort we combine this quiet practice with the calm of our setting – right on Lake Constance, on the sunny southern shore, nestled in the Büdingen Park with its mature trees and its own lakeshore.

At the Buff Medical Resort
With us, Buteyko breathing is part of our wellness and movement programme – alongside meditation, yoga, Pilates, Qigong and Tai Chi as well as breathwork according to Wim Hof. This makes it easy to find the format that suits you.
You practise in a calm setting, personally guided and at your own pace. After the exercise there is time to reflect – for instance in our pool landscape, while swimming in the park by the lake, or in the fireplace lounge. And when the day draws to a close, you retreat to your room or suite: interiors finished in Swiss stone pine from the Engadin, grounded beds and a simulated high-altitude climate in all double rooms and suites. The rooms range from 28 to 300 m², all with a view across the park to the lake.
What matters to us: your stay remains entirely up to you. You can enjoy Buteyko breathing as a pure wellness experience – entirely without a medical programme.
What is Buteyko breathing?
The method goes back to the physician Konstantin Buteyko, who developed it in the 1950s. Its core idea: many people breathe too much and too fast in everyday life – often through the mouth and into the upper chest. Buteyko sees this as a possible cause of restlessness and shallow breathing.
The exercises address precisely this. You learn to breathe calmly and lightly through the nose, to gently reduce your breathing volume and to take short, relaxed breathing pauses (the so-called control pause). The aim is a calmer, more even breathing pattern in everyday life. The method assumes that calmer breathing has a favourable influence on oxygen utilisation.
What practitioners experience
Many people feel, after the exercises, that their breath feels calmer and that they find it easier to settle down – this is a subjective experience, not a guaranteed effect. Buteyko breathing is easy to learn and can be continued independently after only a short time.
Buteyko breathing is not a medical treatment and does not replace medical care. It is best understood as a quiet practice that you can learn and continue on your own. If you have any complaints, please have them assessed by a doctor.
What to expect
As a rule, a session begins with a short introduction. You then practise calm nasal breathing and get to know the control pause. The guidance shows you how to continue the exercises at home. No prior experience is required.
More than movement: your health in view
If you would like to go deeper, the Buff Medical Resort goes beyond relaxation. For calmer breathing our high-altitude climate training is of particular interest – alongside that, the spectrum ranges from gut health according to F. X. Mayr through cardiology to sports and exercise medicine. Entirely as you wish. Read more under Programmes.
